Alateen

A support group for teenagers
whose lives have been affected by a loved one's drinking.

What Is Alateen?

Alateen is Al-Anon's programme for teenagers aged 13 to 19 who have been affected by a family member's or friend's drinking.

Members come together to share experiences, learn healthy coping skills, and find hope in a safe and confidential environment.

Like Al-Anon, Alateen is free and based on the Twelve Steps. Teens quickly discover they are not alone and that things can get better.

Our only purpose is to help families and friends of alcoholics.

In Alateen meetings, you will meet other young people who understand what you are going through. Together, members share their experiences, support one another, and learn how to find serenity and even happiness, whether their loved one is still drinking or not.

Alateen provides a safe space to talk about your challenges and learn practical ways to cope with the effects of someone else's drinking. Many of these skills can also help in other areas of life.

Is Alateen for You?

  • Does a parent, relative, or friend drink too much?
  • Do you feel embarrassed, scared, angry, or confused because of their drinking?
  • Do you wish you could talk to someone who truly understands?
  • Do you find yourself covering up or making excuses for them?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, Alateen can help. You will find understanding, support, and hope.
